Preamble

We the original Douglasters created a state which we believe can promote, as well as, guide the Douglassters to be better stewards, as well as, students. Furthermore, we came up with a constitution hoping that it could help our state run in an organized way, with successful citizens. Therefore, we are proud to write this, knowing that it will help us live by our motto, “Being diligent leads you to success.”

ARticles

Article 1:

Section 1: New Douglassland’s government will consist of a Executive and Legislative Branch. The jobs for the Executive Branch is to organize the state, (ex: put away clipboard and add any additional learning opportunities that need to be completed.) The Legislative Branch will create ideas, to amend our state.

Section 2: In Congress, there will be a House of Representatives (There is no Senate). The House of Representatives, will consist of a minimum of 2-5 people, (Can exceed limit). The Legislative Branch creates laws which are then moved to the Governor and Lieutenant Governor to make the decision to pass the law or to veto the law.

Section 3: The Executive Branch, will consist of 2 people, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor. If the state consist of more than five people, the remaining Douglasters can join congress, or form a Cabinet. The Cabinet, should consist of at least two people, not including Speaker of the House.

Article 2:

Section 1: New Douglassland will hold elections for Governor every two months. The previous Governor can not run for that position again unless no other Douglasster runs, however, he/she can still vote for Governor. The Lieutenant Governor can run for Governor unlike the outgoing governor. As well, the President of the class can run for Governor.

Section 2: If only one person runs in a election, than the previous Governor has choice of who should be Lieutenant Governor. If nobody runs for the elections, the Governor and Lieutenant Governor would stay the same. The Douglassters, have decided to use the popular vote because it would be impossible to vote for a governor using the electoral vote. We only have one capital in our state and no city with a higher population. Therefore, the citizens have to use the popular vote.

Section 3: Elections for Governor will take place every two months. The first election takes place in September. Most of the elections will take place on the 20th, if the 20th is on a weekend, the election will take place on the Friday prior to the 20th. In addition, the elections will be during lunch extra-help/challenge sessions.

Section 4: Our House of Representatives’ elections will be every three months on the 12th. If the 12th is on the weekend, the election will take place on the Friday prior to the 12th. Every Douglasster, can run except the current Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and outgoing Speaker of the House. The President of our class, can run for Speaker of the House. The election will be during the extra-help/challenge sessions.

Section 5: For the Cabinet, there will be no elections. Thus, you would be automatically in the Cabinet (unless that Douglasster wants to join Congress). The President and any person, can be in the Cabinet if they are a Douglasster. There will be elections for Speaker of the House. Every Douglasster has the right to vote. If one person runs, they automatically become Speaker of the House. However, they have the right to share their speech, if they have one. The Doglasster will simply say I vote for you and then, they will say the name out loud and the person who has the most votes will be Speaker of the House.

Section 6: After writing the Constitution, it is necessary to connect the understanding map to this document. Thus, wondering is connected to this document because you have to be curious as to what is best for the state and how can it help citizens grow academically. In addition, considering different viewpoints is connected in the way in which, you have to consider others ideas. Also, we uncovered complexity because the citizens should do everything they can to make this a very detailed document. To add on, you also have make connections to this because you still had to see based on what we already had in our state, should The Douglassters still make modifications. Overall, there were some great ideas in this Constitution that can help all Douglassters be the best they can be.
